In the spring of 2017, my colleagues and I taught a four-week photography and literacy curriculum to sixth-grade students in Durham Public Schools. Our project focused on deconstructing the "selfie" craze, encouraging students to think critically about the use of technology and how we represent ourselves. The project culminated with students creating conceptual masks which they then used to take their own portrait.
